Two teams on ‘The Apprentice’ try to persuade a department store to stock a range of products they have designed. The first team unsuccessfully pitch a range of hardware products, before the second team have better luck with their idea for a heat sensitive baby grow. They both then join Lord Sugar in the boardroom for the results.

Could be used as a ‘What not do to’ in a lesson on presentation skills. Watch the clip with a pre-prepared grid which enables students to record what each team did well and what each team did less well. Pause the clip before the boardroom feedback. Ask students to comment on the performance of the teams, and to suggest three things they could have done better. Resume the clip. Students could go into groups that are each given a product to pitch. They could be challenged to prepare a better presentation than the one in the clip. It could also be used to illustrate the importance of preparation and research.
