Weather
Our weather is affected by a number of factors: latitude, relief, aspect and distance from the sea.
- latitudeImaginary lines around the Earth running parallel to the equator. These are measured in degrees north or south of the equator. - places closer to the equator are usually warmer, and places nearer to the North PoleThe place that is located at latitude 90 degrees north of the Equator. It is the northernmost point on the Earth's surface. and South Pole are colder.
- reliefThe way that the landscape changes in height. - places located on flat low-lying land are warmer and places higher up, ie mountains, are colder and wetter.
- aspectThe location a place lies in relation to the sun. - places which are south-facing are warmer and places which are north-facing are colder.
- Distance from the sea - places nearer to the sea are mild and wet, and places further from the sea are drier, but temperatures are more extreme.
