Distribution of the UK's rock types
The various rock types are distributed across the British Isles.
- Rocks that formed under very hot conditions within the Earth. rocks can be found mainly in upland areas in Scotland, in the Lake District in North West England and Snowdonia in North Wales and Northern Ireland.
- A type of rock formed under intense heat or pressure. rocks are found in Northern Ireland and Scotland.
- Sedimentary rocks are widely found across lowland areas of England.
