Assessment of the externally set assignment

The externally set assignment is assessed by the art department in each school. Once the ten-hour unaided, supervised time is over, all of the preparatory work is handed in with the finished final piece(s). After this, you can’t return to any part of your work to improve or change it.

How do my teachers know how to assess my work?

Examples of artwork at a roadshow

Edexcel art teachers are invited each year to attend a student artwork roadshow. Examples of GCSE artwork have been collected by the awarding body to show what different marks look like.

Art teachers are trained to look at the work and understand how the marks have been awarded. This makes sure that teachers give fair grades to every student.

Does the awarding body mark the work?

Once the art teachers have marked the work they will check that marks have been applied fairly across all student work.

A from the awarding body will visit the school to look at a sample of work. They check that the teachers have awarded marks correctly.
