History Boys - Question

Preparation

Before you start, gather together all the notes you have made about the story: its context, plot, characters and themes. Re-read them, then have a go at the question.

There is no wrong answer in which character you choose: your mark depends on how well you support your choice.

The name of the person you choose should be clearly stated in your first paragraph.

Make four or five reasons why you have sympathy for him.

When you’re ready, look at the sample answer, notice how in each paragraph, the point made about the chosen character is linked back to the point of the question – why this leads to greater sympathy for them.
