Adaptations of neurons
Nerve cells are called Nerve cells. They carry an electrical message or impulse when stimulated.. They are adapted to carry electrical impulses from one place to another.

The features of neurons help them to carry out their function efficiently:
- they have a long fibre (The long part of a nerve cell along which the electrical signal quickly moves.) so they can carry messages up and down the body over long distances
- in a stimulated neuron, an electrical Electrical signals that travel along the nerve fibre from one end of the nerve cell to the other. passes along the axon
- the axon is insulated by a fatty (myelin) sheath - the fatty sheath increases the speed of the nerve impulses along the neuron
- at each end of the neuron are tiny branches (Extensions found at the end of a nerve cell.), which branch even further into Small extensions found on the end of dendrons that connect one neuron to another. - the dendrites receive incoming nerve impulses from other neurons
