Working with a lathe

This section assesses commercial manufacture. There will be four or five questions that are worth 20 marks in total.

The first question in this section assesses materials and commercial manufacturing processes.

The first question follows a similar format each year. You will have to identify, select and justify suitable materials and processes for the commercial manufacture of existing products.

  • appearance
  • physical and mechanical properties
  • suitability for a production type
