Impact of decision-making on performance

When performing in any activity, you will often face situations where you must select what to do from a number of different options. The decision you make is often guided by your awareness of what is going on around you.

Imagine you are in a rally in badminton. When the shuttle comes over the net, you face a range of different options:

  • which shot should I play?
  • where should I play it?
  • what pace should I play?
  • what angle should I play?
  • is the shuttle going out?
  • should I play a ?

A lot of the time, these decisions must be made in a split second and the choice you make could hugely influence whether you win or lose the rally.
