Poverty in Scotland

Poverty in Scotland is usually defined in terms of . This might mean that people spend a large proportion of their income on one thing, for example:

  • food
  • heating

This can mean that people living in poverty struggle to pay for things that are usually seen as essential, for example:

  • clothes
  • sanitary protection
  • transport

It can also prevent them taking part in activities that many of us take for granted, for example:

  • buying birthday presents for children
  • going to the cinema
  • meeting friends in a cafe
