Answering questions on the four factors - 3-step process

When answering questions on factors and how they impact performance, you need to provide answers that are specific and in-depth. To achieve this, follow this 3-step process:

  1. Provide an example
  2. Show the impact
  3. Finish with the outcome
A three step process which can help you answer Higher PE questions.

Let's take anger (emotional factor) for example.

  1. Failing to control your anger could negatively impact you when the referee makes a decision you disagree with in football. (example)
  2. This could mean you get very frustrated and start to shout and swear at the referee. (impact
  3. This could then lead to you being sent off and your team having to play the rest of the match with ten players. (outcome)

In the answer above, notice how it is:

  1. Very specific. It gives an exact situation where you could get angry in football
  2. Showing an exact way anger could impact you in relation to the referee.   
  3. Providing depth by ending with what could happen as a result of swearing at the referee.
