The forehand is an attacking shot that is used to force an error by your opponent.

To create a successful forehand shot:

  • place the bat with a slightly tilted angle towards the table, in line with the oncoming ball
  • swing your forearm in a forward direction, pushing the ball either straight on or towards your opponent, or by using the sides of the table
  • your decision as to where to direct the ball will depend on your opponent's position and their strengths and weaknesses

A successful shot will need to:

  • have a good grip
  • have a good speed of return
  • be firm
  • be accurate and powerful
