Why can't people ignore Pastor Terry Jones?

| Thursday, 9 Sept. 2010 | 18:00 - 19:00 GMT

There are few politicians and public figures who aren't speaking out against the proposed burning of the Koran at a small church in Gainesville, Florida this weekend, on the anniversary of 9/11. President Obama, The US Afghan commander General David Petraeus, The former British Prime Minster Tony Blair, The Pope, Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, Sarah Palin, even Kurt Westergaard, the DANISH cartoonist who sparked Muslim outrage in 2006 with a drawing of the Prophet Mohammed with a bomb for a turban, said it is going too far.

Is it understandable that Muslims around the world feel angry by what he's planning to do? Would there be similar outrage if Muslims were burning the bible? Or should this be viewed in the same way as President Obama sees it, as a "stunt?"

Anubic Darque - When the Taliban dynamited the giant ancient Buddhas in Afghanistan due to them not being Islamic the Buddhists did not start declaring war on them. There was no Buddhist suicide bombers attacking mosques or burning Korans. I wonder if the Islamics should take a page from the Buddhists.

Tom D Ford on the blog - I would suggest that Muslims search out or just define right now what is the proper way to dispose of a Koran, and I suggest that they consider giving it a similar honor to the American Flag, that burning it is the ultimate in respect. And that would make this Conservative Republican Christian "Pastor" look like a fool, it would take away his fire and then people could go back to ignoring him!

Jean Ntwali - I think burning of the Quoran represent the worst form of Religious Fundamentalism. His basis of reasoning is no different than the 9/11 terrorists. This is why we can not ignore this.
