The ever-changing habitats around the River Severn support a huge variety of wildlife species.
This mix of habitats has attracted some rare species to the reserve including osprey, ruff, great white egret, whimbrel, green sandpiper, and wintering flocks of tree sparrows, linnets and brambling.
Visitors to the reserve in early spring may be lucky enough to observe brown hares and you can also find nationally scarce plants such as the flowering rush and mudwort here.
Management of the site for wildlife conservation has improved the breeding success of waders and the pond and grassland areas will continue to encourage birds, insects, amphibians and small mammals.
Two hides have been built for visitors to watch the wildlife on the reserve and although well hidden, can be easily accessed on foot or by wheelchair.
Dolydd Hafren is west of the B4388. Drive through Forden village for 1.5 miles, turn right at the Gaer Farm and follow the track to the Trust car park.
