Jan Martiník studied singing at the Janáček Conservatory, Ostrava with Eliška Pappová and took part in master classes with Peter Dvorský. In 2003 he won the Antonín Dvořák International Vocal Competition and second prize in the 2004 Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský International Vocal Competition.

Jan was a finalist in Operalia 2007 and won Förderpreis in Das Lied competition in Berlin in 2009. He appeared in roles at the NDM Ostrava, including Pistola (Falstaff), Leporello (Don Giovanni) and Truffaldino (Ariadne auf Naxos).

Since 2006 he has appeared at the National Theatre Prague as Masetto (Don Giovanni), Larkens and José Castro (La fanciulla del West), and Mago (Rinaldo). He sang at a gala concert in 2007 with Jelena Obraztsova and Peter Dvorský in Košice.

In 2008, Jan performed Don Prudenzio (Il viaggio a Reims) at Accademia Rossiniana in Pesaro, appeared as Dottore Grenvil (La traviata) at Theater Erfurt, gave a recital in the Prague Spring Festival and sang the bass part in Bach's St Matthew Passion with the Collegium 1704 in Brno.

He also joined the Komische Oper Berlin, where he sings Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), Colline (La bohème), Surin (Pique Dame) and Marquis d'Obigny (La traviata).

Future work includes Sparafucile (Rigoletto) and Zoroastro (Orlando) for Komische Oper Berlin.

Jan is interested in cars, buildings and cooking.
