Daphne Owen: Frank & Daisy - A Love Story

Frank & Daisy - A Love Story

By Daphne Owen
July 2005,
A digital story from Shoebox Stories

"It was always on her dressing table, the Japanese powder bowl. His gift to her when they were young and walking out together. They married in 1937, and two years later had me. Then posted abroad on active service, he sent this card. To my darling wife, with all my love. Frank, Christmas 1943.

Peace time and in her forties, Daisy trained to be a nurse and Frank was in work as a hall porter. During her last illness she said he was a saint and felt cherished. He lived without her for seven years until his death in 1987.

I found her old recipe book. She'd made a list on the back fly leaf, headed, dislikes of Frank. He too was cherished.

Their legacy of love flows on to me, their granddaughters and great grandsons. Thank you mum and dad."
