Naming objects gets baby used to words. If you've got lots of different socks, try talking about how the socks are different - use words like "big" and "small".
Pop a sock on your hand and you've got a sock puppet!

Doing silly voices with the puppet may make your baby giggle - if so, giggle back.
Taking turns responding to each other helps develop your baby's language skills. You could try hiding things inside the sock - being curious and finding new things helps your baby learn about the world.
