Wakefield Trinity have signed former Catalans Dragons back Tony Gigot on a deal until the end of the 2021 season.

The France international left Catalans at the end of 2019 and had a brief spell with Toronto Wolfpack.

During his time at Catalans, Gigot became the first Frenchman to win the Lance Todd Trophy as they lifted the 2018 Challenge Cup.

"It's been a long break for me and I'm just happy to get a chance to be back on the field," he said.

"I received a call from my manager and he said Wakefield would like to speak to me, so I spoke with Chris and Michael and it's a great club to come to."

Gigot started his career with Catalans in 2010 and had spells with Toulouse Olympique and London Broncos before he joined Toronto earlier this year.

However, that spell was short lived as the Canadian club's financial issues saw them exit the current Super League season prior to its return on 2 August.

"To be honest, I'm over the moon because he's a player that I have admired over the last few years," boss Chris Chester said.

"I tried to sign him when I was at Hull KR and when we found out he was going to be available again we jumped at the chance."

Meanwhile, winger Lee Kershaw has extended his contract with the Super League club until the end of 2021.

The 21-year-old made his debut against Leeds Rhinos in April 2019.
