Arbroath 0-1 Alloa Athletic: visitors rise from foot of Championship as hosts sink to 10th

  • Published

Alloa earned their first win of the season to move off the foot of the Scottish Championship in a slender win over Arbroath.

Stefan Scougall broke the deadlock on the 79th minute, drilling the ball through the middle of the box beyond Arbroath keeper Derek Gaston.

The game was largely dominated by the home side but they could not convert their chances.

Dick Campbell's side now fall bottom of the table as Alloa sit eighth.

Dale Hilson had a chance for Arbroath on the 11th minute with a shot from the right of the box, which was neatly saved by Gaston.

Bobby Linn also had an opportunity to put the Gayfield side into the lead after the break, but the ball flew left of goal.

Arbroath manager Dick Campbell: "I'm extremely disappointed. If you don't create chances you can't win games.

"We're bottom of the league the week before Christmas and I don't like being bottom of the league - I've not been there a lot of times."

Alloa manager Peter Grant: "Our all-round performance was very good. We showed both sides of the game against a very difficult opponent."
