For the last year we've been asking the engineers and scientists in ±«Óãtv R&D what they think the future holds for the ±«Óãtv. The resulting film brings life to R&D’s vision of how we think audiences might consume media in the future. It’s fiction of course but it shows how emerging technologies enhance the enjoyment and value of ±«Óãtv services for licence fee payers.

We know that what we do in R&D can sometimes be impenetrable to those outside the industry, but we also know the impact our work has had on audiences in the past and is likely to have in the future. So we wanted to make a film that easily communicates what R&D does and our current vision. The production process involved the filmmakers speaking to a selection of R&D engineers and the leaders of the department including our chief scientist Brandon Butterworth. Through these interviews the production team found out what our experts think the media landscape might look like in five or so years’ time. They then went away and created a very human story showing a normal family interact with technology and use it to enhance their lives. What’s shown in the film is in line with projects R&D and its industry partners have or are currently working on. But we are a research department, our work is experimental and what you see in the film doesn’t represent any planned ±«Óãtv services of the future. But you never know how things will develop, watch this space…. I hope you enjoy spending time with the Pierce family.
