In a week where was at the forefront of our activities in IRFS this is a good opportunity to remind you to sign-up for - an experiment to upload voice samples to Wikimedia organised by ±«Óãtv R&D in conjunction with the Open Knowledge Foundation, Wikimedia UK and Creative Commons UK.

Open Internet MoUs

This week (MoU) supporting free and open internet technologies with the Open Data Institute, the Open Knowledge Foundation, the Mozilla Foundation and the Europeana Foundation. Zillah and Yves attended the signing meeting and discussed how we could use linked open data to provide compelling experiences for audiences.

Following the recent successful project review, Theo and Chris G have been planning our future work in the , which is now in its second phase. The research work will involve user trials and experiments they will run in collaboration with Lancaster University on the . They have selected the core features and research questions that will be the focus of the trial and identified the statistics and visualisations they'll need to complete their quantitative analysis.

Barbara is continuing her work on the which is an opportunity for SMEs across Europe to join the project and use the technologies it has developed in gaming, social connected TVs and smart city services. She is currently reviewing potential external evaluators for the proposals. The selected SMEs will  get to share €1.3M funding.

Future directions

Several team members have been evaluating technologies which could be key to some of our future projects:

  • Andrew McP and Yves have experimenting with a Live system whilst Jana has been porting and testing a algorithm.
  • Chris N and Thomas P have been getting to grips with the (TAL) - an open source library developed by the ±«Óãtv for building applications for Connected TV devices.

Radiodan

Finally, , our open prototyping environment for new forms of radio gained legs this week and is now working completely portably with a 3G network interface and a battery!
