Ìý Festival of Santa Lucia Friday 13 December 2002 Ìý
Today is Santa Lucia's Day and all across Sweden this morning, parents will have been woken by their children dressed in white nightgowns, offering them coffee and saffron buns and singing Christmas carols.

It's a typically Swedish festival, but a very unlikely one. The real Lucia...or LOOCHEA, was a relatively unknown Catholic martyr, and Sweden has been Protestant for hundreds of years.
So what is the attraction of the Saint? Jennifer Chevalier attended the Festival with Swedish ex-pats here in Britain, to find out more.
