Sequins by Ashish - picture by Will Sanders
Sparkling spangles

The Spring/Summer 2009 collections shone as the clothes sashayed up and down the catwalks with a little help from hundreds and thousands of sequins and now the High Street is awash with them too. The shiny disc adornments used to be strictly for after dark and often associated with outfits deemed to be cheap and nasty unless dancing on stage or skating on ice. What has changed? Since he graduated eight years ago, fashion designer Ashish’s chic and luxe shimmering sportswear shaped designs have been synonymous with sequins. He joins Jenni together with Oriole Cullen, curator at the Victoria and Albert Museum, to discuss the allure of sequins.
