Praising children 25 November 2008
Are we doing our children a disservice by constantly praising them?

New research suggests that baby-boomer parents are over-praising their children to such an extent that they grow up with an inflated sense of their own intelligence and a lack of awareness about the ‘real world’. Are we over-praising to such an extent that our children never experience failure, or are we simply boosting their confidence and protecting them from the harsh reality they will soon face? Jane is joined by Elizabeth Hartley-Brewer, author of Praising Girls Well: 100 Tips for Parents and Teachers, and Sue Jenner, clinical psychologist and author.
