This week's programme is a tale of mystery - all about the British economy.

Peter Day reaches for his Meerschaum pipe and his Sherlock Holmes deerstalker to investigate why the British economy seems to be doing so well. Some of the speakers in this programme think it's as a result of high government spending - others say it's all down to consumer spending.

The programme explores how the economy has changed wonderfully in the last 50 years - but still has the problems of success, as well as the long term problem of productivity - which is growing at just half the rate of the USA.

Included in the programme are:
  • Economist Denis Turner
  • Interior designer Sandra Lawson
  • IT consultant Scott Walker
  • Douglas McWilliams from the Centre for Economics and Business Research
  • Building Contractor Greg Rabbitt
  • Adrian Allen, Marketing Director, Technicut in Sheffield
  • Anand Sharma from TMB consultancy
