The Titanic and ±«Óãtv Rule
In 1912 ±«Óãtv Rule for Ireland once again was at the forefront of Parliament's agenda. The ±«Óãtv Rule Bill met sharp opposition from the Ulster Unionists. They could not accept the possibility of being ruled from Catholic Dublin. They wanted their own army and were given permission by local magistrates to set up a militia. Thus, the Ulster Volunteer Force was formed. The ±«Óãtv Rule Bill passed through the Commons only to be rejected by the Lords. Under the new Parliament Act, in two years it could be on the Statute Book because the Lords could now only delay rather than veto.

Next on the Parliament's agenda was universal suffrage. Christabel Pankhurst left the Women's Social and Political Union in 1912 to devise a more militant campaign.
