What's the fairest voting system?

Answering your questions about life, Earth and the universe

2024 is a bumper year for elections. From Taiwan to Russia, India to the USA, by the end of the year almost half of the world's population will have had the chance to choose who governs them.

But there are a huge array of possible voting systems - and listener James wants CrowdScience to find out which is the fairest.

We attempt to devise the perfect system for the imaginary realm of Crowdland, seeking advice from mathematicians and political scientists along the way. What does it mean for an electoral system to be fair? And does fairest necessarily mean best?
