A long-awaited report by the US special counsel, Robert Mueller, has cleared President Trump of colluding with Russia in the 2016 election but its findings on alleged obstruction of justice are more equivocal; the military government in Thailand appears to have tightened its grip on power, with preliminary election results showing a pro-army party in the lead; and senior British ministers have closed ranks around the embattled prime minister Theresa May, after reports emerged that colleagues were plotting to oust her.
