Mike Davies Profile

A little bit about Mike Davies

Mike Davies was born in 1978 in Los Angeles, California where he lived until he was 19 years old.

Both of his parents are British, and he spent a lot of time in the UK whilst growing up, taking in the punk rock culture and developing a love for the music.

This soon became a passion, and he decided to give up art school and pursue a career in radio, moving to London in 2001 where he began temping as a runner at Radio 1. After working with Steve Lamacq and The Evening Session at The Deconstruction Tour, he was invited to join the team permanently.

After a year and a half working on The Evening Session, Mike had built up a reputation in the record industry and in radio as one of the leading taste makers in his field of music. In January 2002 Radio 1 gave Mike a slot on the station to build his own show from scratch.

He created The Lock Up, a show which showcases and reflects his own musical tastes which are as diverse as punk rock, hip hop, ska, rockabilly, psycho-rockabilly, hardcore, dub, reggae and a few things you might not expect.
