Mike Davies was born in 1978 in Los Angeles, California where he lived until he was 19 years old.

Both of his parents are British, and he spent a lot of time in the UK whilst growing up, taking in the punk rock culture and developing a love for the music.

This soon became a passion, and he decided to give up art school and pursue a career in radio, moving to London in 2001 where he began temping as a runner at Radio 1. After working with Steve Lamacq and The Evening Session at The Deconstruction Tour,聽he was invited to join the team permanently.

After a year and a half working on The Evening Session, Mike had built up a reputation in the record industry and in radio as one of the leading taste makers in his field of music.聽In January 2002 Radio 1 gave Mike a slot on the station to build his own show from scratch.

He created The Lock Up, a show which showcases and reflects his own musical tastes which are as diverse as punk rock, hip hop, ska, rockabilly, psycho-rockabilly, hardcore, dub, reggae and a few things you might not expect.
