Alan Shearer

The Match of the Day pundit on his most gruelling challenge yet:

Alan Shearer is arguably the greatest goalscorer in the modern era of English football.

I can’t let Rob win; I’d never live it down!

He scored 283 top flight goals in a career spanning almost 30 years, playing for Southampton, Blackburn Rovers (where he won the league title in 1995) and hometown club Newcastle United.

He remains the leading goalscorer in the Barclays Premier League, scoring 260 times since its inception in 1992.

Alan played for England 60 times, captaining the side on 34 occasions and scoring 30 goals.

He took part in the Sport Relief Super Cycle in 2008, but is now preparing for a new physically-demanding challenge in more familiar territory:

"I’m used to being challenged at Wembley – I’ve played some crunch matches at this stadium and now I’m back to be tested again!

Even at the peak of my career this challenge would have been tough on my body. However, now I am a retired footballer – so it’s going to be a challenge of physical and mental endurance.

I can’t let Rob win; I’d never live it down!"
