Jailed for Treason
A man who took a crossbow to Windsor Castle on Christmas Day in 2021 to "kill" the late Queen has been given a nine-year prison sentence.
A man who broke into Windsor Castle armed with a crossbow in 2021 with the intention of killing the late Queen has been handed a nine-year sentence for treason. Jaswant Singh Chail - who's 21 - pleaded guilty earlier this year. He'll serve some of his sentence in Broadmoor, a high-security psychiatric hospital, before moving to prison.
Chail is the first person in the UK to be convicted of treason since 1981. So how can a law which was created more than 650 years ago still have relevance today? In our 5 Minutes On podcast, we hear from Michael Lobban - a professor of legal history at the London School of Economics.
