Pelosi: Bidenâs age does not deter Democrats
Fmr House Speaker defends Bidenâs age, but says Democrats âhave to communicate betterâ
Senior Democrat Nancy Pelosi has told HARDtalk that âDemocrats support Joe Bidenâ and âtheyâre not supporting somebody else because Joe Biden is oldâ.
When asked by HARDtalk host Stephen Sackur if 80-year-old President Biden should hand over power to a younger generation, she said: âNo, Joe Biden is the President of the United States⊠we have a great president
Her remarks come after recent polling suggested a majority of Democrats are concerned that the US president is too old to serve a second term.
Speaking to the ±«Óătv at Lake Como in Italy, the former Speaker of the US House of Representatives said that âJoe Biden is wise, he has knowledgeâ and that âhis presidency has been so successful on the domestic frontâ.
âHe has empathy, and cares about working class families,â she said, adding that âwe have to communicate that better to the American peopleâ.
Congresswoman Pelosi has represented her constituents in California for 36 years and was the first woman to lead either chamber of the US Congress. In January this year, at the age of 82, she stood down as House Democratic leader saying it was time âfor a new generation to lead the Democratic caucusâ.
The legislator said she was confident Biden will win the 2024 Presidential election.
