Pelosi: Biden’s age does not deter Democrats

Fmr House Speaker defends Biden’s age, but says Democrats “have to communicate better”

Senior Democrat Nancy Pelosi has told HARDtalk that “Democrats support Joe Biden” and “they’re not supporting somebody else because Joe Biden is old”.

When asked by HARDtalk host Stephen Sackur if 80-year-old President Biden should hand over power to a younger generation, she said: “No, Joe Biden is the President of the United States
 we have a great president

Her remarks come after recent polling suggested a majority of Democrats are concerned that the US president is too old to serve a second term.

Speaking to the ±«Óătv at Lake Como in Italy, the former Speaker of the US House of Representatives said that “Joe Biden is wise, he has knowledge” and that “his presidency has been so successful on the domestic front”.

“He has empathy, and cares about working class families,” she said, adding that “we have to communicate that better to the American people”.

Congresswoman Pelosi has represented her constituents in California for 36 years and was the first woman to lead either chamber of the US Congress. In January this year, at the age of 82, she stood down as House Democratic leader saying it was time “for a new generation to lead the Democratic caucus”.

The legislator said she was confident Biden will win the 2024 Presidential election.
