Franz Liszt's piano compositions were responsible for a wave of mass hysteria called Lisztomania. Listen and hear some of his most impressive pieces and favourite composers.

Responsible for Lisztomania, the mass hysteria that swept 19th-century Europe, our proto-rockstar Franz Liszt was a musical pioneer and personality. With his luscious locks and long, thin fingers, once he removed his white gloves he dazzled audiences with his improvisations, pianistic fireworks and over 700 compositions.

This playlist gives you front-row access to his best and most impressive piano pieces, and the composers he supported during his lifetime: Clara Schumann, Saint-Saëns, Grieg and his son-in-law and fellow monster: Richard Wagner. Hear his passion for the music of Johann Strauss II, Schubert and the diabolic dynamism of Paganini.
