Czech Republic bans Russian tourists

The Czech Republic has banned Russian tourists travelling on Schengen visas, following in the footsteps of Finland, Poland and the Baltic states.

Jaroslav Kurfürst is the Czech Deputy Minister for Europe. He told Newsday: “We believe it will put pressure on the Russian government to stop the war…There is a window for the people who are…democratic dissidents or those people who are threatened by persecution. We have always maintained the possibility of humanitarian visas.”

However, he went on to warn that Russians fleeing mobilisation will not be allowed entry: “Many of them just put off from their car the letter Z, which is expressing their consent with the mobilisation…these people will not be allowed in.”
