From Punk Drummer to Island Photographer

Since he moved to the Isle of Harris, ex-Buzzcocks drummer John Maher has become a serious photographer keen to document his adopted island’s landscapes and locals.

Ex-Buzzcocks drummer John Maher shares punk memories and his current photography obsession, from his adopted home on the Isle of Harris. We hear how John toured the world supporting the Sex Pistols, and he opens up his scrapbooks to reveal meeting heroes such as Blondie’s Debbie Harry.

Having lived a fast-paced life, John moved to Harris 20 years ago, and where he soon picked up his dusty camera and turned his lens to his adopted home. John aims to depict the island in a new way, with the focus not just on the breathtaking landscapes, but also the people and places left behind by humans. We join him as he completes his current project, which features a series of photographs focusing on a local family transforming an old croft into their perfect new home.
