Evin prison fire: Fears for âfriendsâ
The authorities in Iran say four detainees have died and 61 others were injured during a fire at Evin prison in Tehran. Officials say there was a riot, but details are still unclear.
Hundreds of those taking part in protests across Iran following the death of Masha Amini have been sent to Evin prison but it is unknown whether the jail situation is related to the protests.
Anoosheh Ashoori is a British-Iranian who spent nearly five years at Evin prison. He told Newsday: âMight as well be an uprising because the situation there is quite dire. PeopleâŠare struggling with cockroaches, bed-bugs, rats, everything and you are living that life every day so you can actually reach your threshold very easily.â
