The revolt against Boris Johnson

How a mass walk-out of ministers and a growing Tory revolt led to the pressure on the PM ramping up enormously.

Has there ever been a more fast-moving day of drama at Westminster? Boris Johnson's spent much of July 6th 2022 clinging to his premiership by the thinnest of threads. It all started the night before with the resignations of his Chancellor Rishi Sunak and the Health Secretary Sajid Javid. What followed was a mass walk-out of ministers and a growing Tory revolt which led to the pressure on the PM ramping up enormously.

At Prime Minister's Questions he said he had a "colossal mandate" from the 2019 election and would "keep going". But a stream of Tories are continuing to abandon him, with one in five MPs with government roles quitting since Tuesday. Even some of Mr Johnson's most loyal allays are saying enough is enough. The Levelling Up Secretary Michael Gove has told the prime minister he should resign.

Questions about Mr Johnson's future swirled around throughout the day. For 5 Minutes On, the ±«Óãtv Political Correspondent, Ione Wells, gives us a flavour of how the day unfolded.
