'Once in a lifetime' job on remote Scottish island
The four-pupil school on Foula in the Shetland Islands is looking for a new headteacher. The job comes with just one classroom and a £61,000 salary.
Foula in the Shetland Islands vies with Fair Isle as the most isolated and exposed inhabited place in the UK. The 28 people currently living there are easily outnumbered by sheep. There are no shops or pubs, so food has to be ordered from the mainland and brought in by ferry or plane.
However, the island does have a primary school - with just four pupils. And it's looking for a new headteacher. The job comes with one classroom, a rented three-bedroom house and a £61,000 salary. It's described as a 'once in a lifetime' chance by the local council.
Beverley MacPherson, who's retiring after four years in the role, says - for her - it's been idyllic. For 5 Minutes On, she records an audio diary of life on the island and explains just how much she will miss it.
