Confidence vote won - what next for Boris Johnson?

Boris Johnson wins a confidence vote of Tory MPs by 211 to 148. It means he will stay in his job as Prime Minister - but for how long? Chris Mason takes us through a frantic day.

An arithmetic win for Boris Johnson - but the numbers make uncomfortable reading for the Prime Minister. 148 Conservative MPs think the country would be better off without him. That is a far higher proportion of his MPs attempting to eject him than wanted rid of Theresa May when she faced a confidence vote - she was gone within six months. His supporters say the situation is very different now - but this vote means this issue won't go away. Boris Johnson says the result is "decisive", adding: "What it means is as a government we can move on and focus on the stuff that I think really matters to people". Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer says "the British public are fed up" with the PM.

It's been a frantic and dramatic day in Westminster. For 5 Minutes On, the ±«Óãtv's Political Editor, Chris Mason, takes us through how it all unfolded and adds his own analysis as to what this result might mean.
