What are the obstacles preventing most women from exclusive breastfeeding?

A report by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in February 2022, on how the marketing of formula milk influences decisions on infant feeding, found that it undermines parents’ confidence in breastfeeding. To encourage more women to exclusively breastfeed, the Kenyan government passed laws to regulate the use of feeding bottles. The law controls the labelling of bottles, teats and pacifiers and bans advertising them. But even as governments across Africa make such attempts, these regulations may not be enough to increase the uptake of exclusive breastfeeding. The ±«Óătv’s Agnes Penda looks at some of the issues that continue to be a hindrance.
