Ellen Renton is an Edinburgh-based poet, spoken-word artist and theatremaker whose debut one-woman show, Within Sight, tells the story of a fictional runner who narrowly misses out on qualifying for the Paralympic Games.

Both Ellen and her character have albinism, a condition that affects the production of melatonin, which is the pigment that colours a person’s hair, skin and eyes. She explores the theme of ableism throughout the show by looking at the judgement and prejudice those with albinism face, while creating a nuanced disabled character – something Ellen says is a rarity in modern media.
