A comic and absurd story about human beings, science and nature. In America after the war, pesticides like DDT relieved the grinding poverty of life on the land for millions of people. Scientists became heroes in what was seen as the struggle against nature. Then, in 1968, DDT was put on trial in a mid-western courtroom.

Other scientists argued that it was wrong to control nature. They in turn became heroes, this time of the new environmental movement. This film looks at the strange things that happen when science is used to justify social and political change, and raises serious questions about our present attitude to nature.
