The Venezuelan Stand-Off

Will the international community end Venezuela’s crisis and Nicolas Maduro’s grip on power?

The humanitarian crisis in Venezuela deepened this week as the stand-off between the Maduro regime and the international community showed no sign of ending.

Opposition leader Juan GuaidĂł, who declared himself interim president last month and now has the backing of 40 countries, has warned hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans are in danger of dying without international aid, with reports of food and medical supplies running desperately short.
So what will it take to break the deadlock and at what price?

Tom Long, Assistant Professor in New Rising World Powers at Warwick University, and Asa Cusack, Managing Editor of the Latin America and Caribbean Centre at London School of Economics, discuss the options.
