Joe Thompson on retiring from professional football
Rochdale midfielder Joe Thompson has told ±«Óãtv Radio 5 Live about his decision to retire from professional football after twice recovering from cancer during his career.
The 29-year-old was first diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma while at Tranmere Rovers in 2013 and given the all-clear in 2014.
After being diagnosed with cancer again in March 2017, he was in complete remission and returned for the remainder of the 2017-18 season.
Speaking to Sam Walker, he said he's had six weeks to come to terms with the decision, and thinks his body is "grateful" for it.
