Dan's Desert Island Disco for his sister's birthday party!
A taste of the tunes Dan will be dropping when he DJs his sister's 50th next month!
Dan will be DJ-ing at his sisterâs 50th birthday party next month - these are just some of the tunes that will get people dancing:
âą Odyssey â Inside Out
âą The Whispers â Itâs a Love Thing
âą Shannon â Let The Music Play
âą D-Train - You're The One For Me
âą Cybotron - Clear
Ahead of this, he will be DJ-ing at a Kids Rave, at St Annâs Well Gardens, this weekend, as part of the Brighton Festival.
Dan told us: âMy elder sister Cath (Hattie to her friends) is 50 in May, and weâre having a big disco party in June in a tent in my parentâs garden.
Sheâs a gardener, and always has 6 Music on while she chops down trees ânâ stuff. I have been given the job as DJ for the day, and more importantly, the night. Sheâs given me an insanely massive list of tunes to play. I have refused to play Simply Red.
The part of our musical history together that Iâm most excited about re-treading is the late end of disco and 80s funk, soul and pop.We had quite a few good record shops in Aylesbury in the 80s. As well at Our Price, WH Smith and Woolworths (biggest in Europe!) we had Record House and Earth Records, the latter of which was where my sis would go to get the harder to find funk and soul 12âs. A tiny place inhabited by long hairy men. Me and my friends were getting into Electro and breakdancing at the time, mostly through copied cassettes of the Streetsounds compilations and listening to Mike Allenâs Rap Show on Capital.
So there was a bit of a crossover in our musical tastes, even though I was younger, and of course, cooler. Ha!
Years later I would âborrowâ some of her 12âs when I went to college and started DJing in Nottingham in the late 80s. Thereâs plenty of these tunes I still play now too. This selection is the cream of her massive list. (with a couple of my electro bangers squeezed in). I canât wait to play at her party and drop all these beauties.
Sheâs great, and I love her very much."
