The Big Farmland Bird Count, Emmetts Garden and The Plant Fair Roadshow

Jim Egan fromr The Big Farmland Bird Count joins us to talk about the fifth Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust's Big Farmland Bird Count (BFBC) taking place between 9th-18th February. It will see farmers and landowners up and down the country count birds they see on their land.

Our series looking behind the scenes at Kent's National Trust properties continues - this week Matt Scott, Head Gardener at Emmetts Garden near Sevenoks
joins us as they re-open for half-term.

And Paul Barney from Edulis Nursery joins us from Hole Park near Sevenoaks where the Plant Fair Roadshow is open today, plus talks about Great Comp Garden's Snowdrop Sensation next Sunday when rare and unusual snowdrops along with colourful spring bulbs will be on display.

GARDENING EVENTS
SUNDAY 11th FEB

As the weather was so bad on Wed, Spring Platt near Maidstone are opening today Sunday 11 Feb for the NGS. Galanthophiles can enjoy Carolyn's big collection of snowdrops, greenhouses with alpines and a lovely home made cake and a hot drink ....take advantage of this extra opening today.

TUESDAY 13th FEB
The Island Floral Group will be holding its AGM at St Peters Church Hall, Hopeville Avenue, Broadstairs starting at 2.30pm. Their speaker is a representative from the Mercy Ship. It is also hoped to present a cheque to the Viking Day Unit at QEQM hospital. Everyone will be made most welcome.

Waltham Gardeners' Society meet at 7.30 p.m. At Waltham Village Hall
There's a talk on Wild Flowers, Fruit and Fungi by Sue Buckingham
Sue is a field botanist and the joint recorder for botany in East Kent. This involves walking footpaths, lanes, woods, towns etc. And noting all of the plants that are growing wild. Records then go onto a database and are passed to the BSBI (Botanical Society for Britain and Ireland) who promote the study and understanding on British and Irish Botany.
Guests are very welcome and to join them for coffee and biscuits after the presentation.

Strood Gardening Club meet at 7.30pm at St Nicholas Church, Lower Hall, High Street, Strood - The topic is "A tour of Britain in Bloom with a National Judge" and the speaker is the interesting and entertaining JIM BUTTRESS.
Non members are welcome to come along at a charge of £3 - which includes tea and biscuits!

WEDNESDAY 14th FEB
The speaker for Hartley Horticultural Society this month is Caroline Halfpenny. Her talk is on the 'Gardens of Cornwall ' when they meet at 8pm. The venue is Fawkham and Hartley Church Centre, Ash Road, Hartley DA3 8DB. Visitors are welcome and refreshments are available.

It's of the first meeting of 2018 of the Sundridge & Brasted Horticultural Society.
This will be a Tea Afternoon for members to meet up again after the winter over a cup of tea and cakes, and will be held in Brasted Pavilion, from 2.30pm. Subscriptions will be collected and membership cards given out.
Anyone interested in joining the Society will be very welcome to attend.

THURSDAY 15th FEB
Groombridge Horticultural Society meet at 8pm in the New Hall in Groombridge. Richard Ramsey, owner of Wthypitts Dahlia Farm, will be speaking about dahlias and their propagation.

FRIDAY 16th FEB
Bidborough Gardening Association meet at 8pm at Bidborough Village Hall - there's a talk by Kevin Tooher on `Clematis for the Year Round Garden`.

SATURDAY 17th FEB
Come along to the Landmark garden on Deal High Street, CT14 6BB in the morning, where there 'will be 'The Seedy Saturday'- (seed swap) with the Sandown Castle gardeners. Supporting the event will be Walmer WI, who will be 'showing the love' on climate change. The NFWI are partners with the Climate Coalition to highlight the potential harm brought about by climate change on a local and global scale.
They will also have stalls from Deal's SE in Bloom team, Bay Trust and the Deal Hop Farm.
Music provided by the Landmark Ukulele Club (there is about 50 of them!)
