Moment car crashes into horses and riders

A motorist veered on to the wrong side of the road and crashed into two horses and their riders.

The riders were thrown from the animals in the collision in Witcham, near Ely, Cambridgeshire.

One rider was taken to hospital as a precaution, but was released after being seen by a doctor.

A Cambridgeshire Police spokesman said: "Both the riders and horses were not seriously injured. We are investigating the incident and are making inquiries."

The force said it would not comment on claims the driver had suffered a stroke because "the cause of the accident is still being investigated".

The East of England Ambulance has yet to confirm whether it attended the incident.

The accident happened near the Witcham Equestrian Centre.

Spokeswoman Jane Hart said one of the horses had to have stitches, adding: "We are very hopeful of a full recovery."

"We feel thankful the riders and horses are alright."
