I Was There: Asian Explusion from Uganda

The Ugandan President ordered the expulsion of Asians from the country in 1971.

Peter takes a look back at a big moment in history through the eyes of those who experienced it. This week "I Was There" goes back to 1971, when the President of Uganda, Idi Amin, ordered the expulsion of Asians from the country.

There were around 60,000 Asians from India and Pakistan in Uganda, and Amin gave them 90 days to leave.

Resentment against them had been growing amongst Uganda's black majority, and Amin exploited this by claiming Asians were sabotaging the Ugandan economy.
