Why is Google patenting sticky cars?

Google has patented a sticky coating for driverless cars that could reduce damage done to pedestrians in the event of a crash.

"If the robot car hits you," says Mark Bergen from the tech website Re-code, "the adhesive material would stick to you [so] you wouldn't hit the ground."

"If you're going to step into a vehicle with no steering wheel and no driver," he adds, "you've got to be sure it's safe."
