Strikes in France Intensify

The French government says its labour reforms are essential to cut unemployment, and revive the economy. But they've provoked a backlash from angry protesters.

Police fired tear gas at demonstrators in Paris earlier today. Protesters believe the reforms will mean less job security, and weaken the power of unions. Workers at 16 French nuclear power stations have become the latest to strike over the changes. The ±«Óãtv's Jonty Bloom reports from Toulouse in southern France.
