Professor of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies and "archivist of the nation", Kanan Makiya was one of the first to expose the horrors of the Saddam Hussein regime and is now creating the Iraq Memory Foundation - a record and archive of the regime. Interview by Carrie Gracie.
